Guests at Emerson Resort & Spa in New York’s Catskill Mountains will have the opportunity to come face to face with the area’s local “Mushroom Man” when they book the property’s “Catskill Mushroom Walk” package.
John Michelotti, founder of Catskill Fungi, sources edible and medicinal ’shrooms through environmentally friendly harvesting methods and offers guided mushroom walks, mushroom workshops and mushroom-inspired art with the hope of educating locals and visitors on the healthful properties of the kingdom.
During Michelotti’s guided walk, hotel guests will learn about the various types of endemic mushrooms in the Catskills — including oyster, lion mane and reishi mushrooms — as well as each mushroom’s healing powers.
The walks will take place on select Sundays from May to October, which is prime growing season for fungi. Rates begin at $459, and advance reservations are required. The package also includes a two-night resort stay, an Emerson “Amusement” amenity and guaranteed late checkout.
